Program Manager - Employer Relations/Experiential Learning
The Program Manager of Employer Relations and Experiential Learning develops and maintains relationships with potential employers of UHCL students. This position is responsible for devising strategies and plans contributing to the recruitment of employer partners, identifying and supporting placements for student internships, industry projects, and other experiential learning opportunities. Provides support for on-campus recruiting events such as job fairs, career weeks, networking events, and workshops to support students in their job search efforts. Additionally, the Program Manager oversees the Coordinator of Employer Relations and assigned student staff.
Duties:
- Develops relationships with employers to increase experiential learning opportunities for UHCL students. Oversees internships, co-operative education program(s) and Corporate Partners Program in collaboration with the Director. Maintains relationships with existing corporate recruiters through employer visits, telephone calls, e-mail, and face-to-face contact.
- Oversees strategic planning and assessment for employer outreach in collaboration with the Coordinator of Employer Relations. Responsible for the supervision, training, and professional development of the Coordinator of Employer Relations and student employee(s).
- Oversees social media and events student support staff ensuring events are posted in a timely manner while adhering to the established social media marketing strategy. Leads campus marketing activities for employer related events and activities to ensure marketing materials are available through the various communication channels.
- Develops and manages systems for collecting information and reporting to stakeholders about experiential learning outcomes and measurements. Contributes to identifying new opportunities for students whose disciplines do not include work-integrated learning.
- Supports Coordinator of Employer Relations with management of department events to include: All Majors Career Fair, Internship Fair, Teacher Job Fair, Career Weeks, networking events, and all similar events and programs. In collaboration with the Associate Director, manages the department events calendar.
- In collaboration with career coaches, creates employer led workshops on career readiness topics and delivers programming to inform and educate students on a broad range of career pathways.
- Assists the Coordinator of Employer Relations with Jobs4Hawks student registration and initiating marketing campaigns for activation and profile completion. Leads training on Jobs4Hawks database while monitoring access for faculty and staff. Oversees all incoming employer communications.
- Provides support for other functional areas of the department to ensure operational effectiveness. Attends staff and University meetings, and professional conferences/meetings as assigned. Covers required evening and weekend hours and performs related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Educational Leadership or related field.
- Minimum three years experience developing and maintaining relationships with employers and other community organizations.
- Knowledge of job search strategies, labor market supply/demand, and employer's recruitment and interviewing methodologies.
- Knowledge of student engagement and career services products and platforms.
- Knowledge of supervisory best practices and staff development.
- Skills in utilizing student engagement platforms, or client-based CRMs to run reports and analyze data.
- Skills in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to understand the employer engagement process, including the importance of the initial conversation and active listening.
- Ability to assess and problem solve effectively to address employer needs and formulate solutions.
- Ability to effectively express thoughts and ideas verbally and through written communication.
- Strong knowledge of workforce trends and hiring best practices.
- Knowledge of NACE career competencies and best practices related to employer relations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Educational Leadership or related field.
Previous supervisory experience.
Previous experience supporting career services, career programs, and or job placement for students at a college or university career center.
Experience working with Handshake, Navigate, or other career services and student engagement platforms.
Experience working with social media platforms.
Bilingual Skillset (English/Spanish).
