Description:
The Coordinator, Military and Veteran Services supports the veteran certification process, daily operations of the office, co-curricular learning experiences, and offers comprehensive support to veterans and military connected students and families. This role involves assisting students during the certification process with course scheduling and registration, enrollment processes, as well as provides resources for student success. The Coordinator conducts research and provides data on best practices, compliance with veteran affairs regulations, and tailored support and services to enhance the academic and professional success of veteran and military connected students.
Duties:
- Serves as a School Certifying Official (SCO) maintaining compliance with Veteran Affairs (VA). Certifies student eligibility for VA educational benefits in accordance with VA regulations and university policies. Maintains accurate and up-to-date student records related to VA benefits.
- Provides comprehensive advising and support to student veterans regarding VA benefits and enrollment processes.
- Develops and maintains strong working relationships with VA regional offices and other relevant agencies. Conducts outreach and educational programs for students, faculty, and staff regarding VA benefits.
- Stays informed about changes in VA regulations and policies. Prepares and submits required VA reports and documentation.
- Represents the department as needed for registration support, orientation, workshops, and seminars including hosting on and off campus programs and events. Serves on divisional and university-wide committees and advisory boards. Supports evening and weekend programs as needed.
- Attends and participates in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Provides exceptional customer service to student veterans, faculty, and staff.
- Collaborates with campus departments to develop and implement leadership development and career readiness programs and initiatives, supporting the professional growth and employability of veterans and military-affiliated students and performs related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Certification as a Certifying Official from the VA within one month of hire date.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with PeopleSoft/Campus Solutions.
- Experience working in higher education.
- Experience supporting Military and Veteran communities.
- Experience with VA Enrollment Manager.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of military environment and culture.
- Knowledge of VA education benefits and resources.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Suite, Enrollment Manager, PeopleSoft/Campus Solutions.
- Must have strong oral and written communication skills as well as including organizational skills.
- Ability to ensure all records remain safe and confidential to protect the privacy of VA students.
- Ability to establish and maintain inter-departmental relationships with all student services and instructional programs.
- Ability to learn and follow complex procedures and detailed policies.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.
- Ability to provide technical assistance to management, research investigators, and staff regarding VA education benefits process.
