Department: Financial Aid Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.

Description:

The Financial Aid Counselor coordinates and administers a financial aid program(s) within the Financial Aid office and is the key support for developing and managing all processes and procedures for the program. Responsible for efficiently managing student inquiries and providing exceptional support concerning applying for and availability of financial assistance opportunities. Participates in university events, orientations, high school and community presentations, and other events as needed to promote awareness of financial aid available to students.

Duties:

  • Coordinates and administers a financial aid program(s).
  • Provides comprehensive financial aid counseling and packages an alpha student load.
  • Evaluates and processes financial aid applications, reviews financial aid documentation, and determines eligibility; including auditing student awards and making necessary revisions.
  • Develops and implements processes to ensure a seamless student experience and provides training to staff and other constituents about these processes and procedures.
  • Manages reporting and compliance review of program(s) they administer.
  • Attends state and federal workshops, webinars, seminars, and conferences.
  • Assists team members when necessary to enable the success of the department and performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Associate's degree.
  2. Minimum one year of experience working in Higher Education.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree.
Experience with PeopleSoft module.

  • Ability to work with all types of personalities and constituencies and work with various populations.
  • Customer service skills with the ability to resolve difficult situations.
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Strong organizational, verbal, nonverbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple jobs concurrently.
  • Strong, ethical decision making skills.
  • Ability to learn and comprehend federal and state financial aid and VA regulations, admissions policies, and registration/records policies.
  • Ability to handle interruptions, meet deadlines, maintain confidentiality and work with minimal supervision.
