Job Description

The Sociology Program in the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Houston-Downtown is pleased to invite applications for a Lecturer in Sociology beginning August 2025. This is a one-year, non-tenure track position, renewable based on performance and departmental need. Area of specialization is open, but we are especially interested in applicants who can teach Aggression and Violence, Drug Use and Society, Deviance, Gender, Health and Behavioral Science. The successful candidate is expected to teach five courses, consisting of a mix of lower- and upper-level online and face-to-face courses, including Introduction to Sociology, per semester. Excellence in undergraduate teaching is essential.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates must have a Master of Arts in Sociology from a regionally accredited institution by the time of appointment.
  • Candidates must have experience teaching at the collegiate level, both in-person and online.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a doctorate in Sociology or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution by the time of employment.
