Description:
The Department of Finance, Information Systems, Economics and Risk Management (FISER) of the Marilyn Davies College of Business (MDCOB), at the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) invites applicants for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor positions in Management and Information Systems (MIS) to begin in Fall 2025.
While being the second largest university in Houston, the University of Houston-Downtown provides life-changing educational access and opportunities to individuals living in one of the most diverse metropolitan areas in Texas. The University is noted nationally as both a Hispanic-Serving Institution and a Minority-Serving Institution.
The MDCOB is accredited by AACSB and enrolls more than 4,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The department offers majors and minors in Finance, Management Information Systems, and Risk Management and Insurance. The department also offers a minor in Economics.
The candidates selected will have teaching responsibilities including, but not limited to: Programming, Mobile and Web application development, Computer Networking and Data Communications, Security Management, Business Analytics, and other information systems core and elective courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Ideal candidates will provide evidence of quality teaching at the college level that recognizes and adopts best practices in pedagogy. Candidates with experience or interest in teaching Security Management at the graduate level and/or developing an MBA program in Management Information Systems are strongly preferred. Industry experience in Information Systems is also preferred.
The positions require teaching undergraduate and graduate courses during the daytime, evening, and weekend hours both in person and online. The home campus for these positions is the Downtown Houston campus, but the candidates selected may also have teaching assignments at UHD’s Northwest campus.
Successful candidates will demonstrate an ability to publish discipline-related research consistent with AACSB standards and the MDCOB’s interpretation of Scholarly Academic status. Ideal candidates will demonstrate experience or interest in working with others to promote the advancement of the college, university, profession, and community through service-related activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Applicants for the Assistant Professor positions should have a terminal degree in Management Information Systems or a related field from an AACSB-accredited college or should be working towards one having reached the all-but-dissertation (ABD) status. For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment in Fall 2025.
2. Demonstrate a record of, or potential for, scholarly research and publications in discipline-related peer-reviewed journals consistent with AACSB standards and the MDCOB’s definition of Scholarly Academic.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience in teaching a variety of Information Systems courses including Programming, Mobile and Web application development, Computer Networking and Data Communications, Security Management, Business Analytics, and other information systems core and elective courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
2. Demonstrated quality teaching at the college level that recognizes and adopts best practices in pedagogy.
3. Given the needs of MDCOB students, successful candidates must be willing to teach undergraduate and graduate courses during the daytime, evening, and weekend hours both in person and online. Faculty are expected to teach courses offered at the primary campus located in downtown Houston, as well as off-campus locations located in suburban Houston.
4. Experience or interest in teaching Security Management at the Graduate level.
5. Experience or interest in developing an MBA program in MIS.
6. Experience serving on department, college, and university-wide committees as well as other
service to the profession and the community.
7. Evidence of industry experience in Information Systems.
