Description:

Coordinates the operations of a major area of the Residence Hall, which includes office administration, property management, community development, policy enforcement, programming, and personnel administration.

1. Manages the administrative processes for the facility, which includes room assignments and room changes, contract releases, student files, key control and work orders.
2. Selects, trains, supervises and evaluates administrative staff and student assistants.
3. Plans and evaluates programs and educational and community building initiatives for the student staff.
4. Responsible for on-call emergencies and duty rotation for the campus student population.
5. Enforces Residential Life & Housing and university policies and procedures, rules and regulations.
6. Counsels students concerning conduct, safety, sanitation or behavior improvement.
7. Provides student leadership development for hall and floor council members through training and mentoring.
8. Maintains daily office hours; ensures high visibility with students and staff at department and university functions.
9. Serves as liaison with other departments to coordinate student leadership and educational opportunities.
10. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Student Support and Behavioral Intervention

  • Serves as a liaison to the Dean of Students office and the University CARE team for low-level follow-up regarding students of concern.
  • Follows up with residents involved in incidents related to behavioral concerns or mental health, and wellbeing related matters.
  • Meets with residents to determine their needs, formulates goals, and designs plans to resolve problem areas.
  • Mediates conflict between community members.

Wellbeing

  • Collaborates with campus partners, such as Wellness, CAPS, Health Center, Dean of Students, and Launch, to assist intentional curriculum-driven initiatives, advocacy, and referrals.
  • Is knowledgeable about health-related community resources available to students including but not limited to, financial and food insecurity, mental health and wellness, and social services.

Student Success, Residential Engagement, and Assessment

  • Develop, implement, and assess student learning based on the outcomes of the Residential Engagement Model (curricular approach) and leads social engagement opportunities for the community. Foci will be belonging and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Leads student success initiatives for the community by utilizing assessment data, identifying students at risk, and providing interventions by developing meaningful relationships, with residents, student advocacy, and campus resource and referral.
  • Creates a shared vision for student success with the Faculty in Residence and facilitates engagement with residents and staff.
  • Promotes the development of a multicultural community by assisting students in establishing a genuine respect for, and appreciation for personal differences.
  • Creates an environment that encourages students to grow intellectually, socially, emotionally, physically, interpersonally, and ethically toward personal autonomy and interdependence.

 

Crisis Management

  • Serves on 24-hour duty (day, evening, holiday, and weekend) 365 days a year in rotation with other live-in professionals responding to a variety of emergencies including, but not limited to crisis and emergency response, facility maintenance, direction, and support for student staff members, and conflict resolution for residents living in on-campus housing facilities (approximately 6,500 students).

Facilities Management & Supervision

At times when there is a Residence Life Coordinator vacancy, will assist with staff supervision and facilities management for the community. Supervision includes staff of 12-18 Resident Assistants, a Community Mentor, who may be a graduate student and Conference Assistants.

  • Monitor physical condition of residence hall, suite, apartment areas, working collaboratively with maintenance and custodial staff to report and follow-up on work order requests, damages, and facilities emergencies to ensure the environment is conducive to student success.
  • Opens and closes community; assists with conferences.




MQ:
Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Experience: Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job-related experience. Preferred: Three (3) years of experience.
