Description:

The University of Houston's College of Optometry invites qualified applicants with expertise in visual psychophysics and software development for vision research to apply for full-time, non-tenure track research faculty position at the rank of Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Vision Sciences. The successful candidate will be involved in increasing scholarship productivity within the department, increasing the national recognition of the College, and building a research enterprise. The department has a strong group of faculty that conduct high-level basic, translational, and clinical research.

Responsibilities
The Research Assistant Professor will be responsible for independently carrying out specific research projects and specialized software development for psychophysical testing and advanced optical imaging systems in the Advanced Physiological Optics Laboratory directed by Dr. Yoon at the University of Houston College of Optometry. The Research Assistant Professor will also engage in independent and collaborative research using creative visual psychophysics paradigms in the labs of other faculty members including the lab of Dr. Harrison, doing specialized visual testing of diabetic subjects.

Qualifications
Preferred candidates will have the following qualifications/ experience:

  • Ph.D. in vision science physiological optics or a related field
  • Have five to ten years of postdoctoral or more advanced academic experience, including publishing of peer reviewed articles
  • Prior experience in visual psychophysics, optical engineering, and software development for optical and psychophysical studies
  • Experience with and knowledge of statistical and image analysis software
  • Teaching experience
