Description:
The College of Optometry at the University of Houston seeks applicants for a non-tenure track Research Assistant Professor.
The Research Assistant Professor will be responsible for independently carrying out specific research projects and specialized development for cell and molecular biology research concerning the function and regulation of electrical synapses in the retina. The applicant will work with animal model systems as well as cell culture and in vitro paradigms. The applicant will design and perform research projects, collect and analyze data, generate publication-quality figures, and publish research results in peer-reviewed journals. The applicant will present his/her research findings at national and international conferences. The applicant will pursue external funding to support his/her research. The applicant will supervise trainees and technical staff and manage budgets for his/her personal grant funding.
Qualifications
Preferred candidates will have the following qualifications/ experience:
-Ph.D. in vision science physiological optics or a related field
-Have five to ten years of postdoctoral or more advanced academic experience, including publishing of peer reviewed articles,
-Prior experience in visual psychophysics, optical engineering, and software development for optical and psychophysical studies
-Experience with and knowledge of statistical and image analysis software
-Teaching experience
