Description:
The Program Manager of Leadership and Civic Engagement is responsible for planning and facilitating campus-wide leadership and civic engagement experiences to enhance the growth and education of the student body. The Program Manager is responsible for leadership and civic engagement program development, event logistics, outreach and promotion efforts, facilitation, assessment, and reporting. This position supports leadership curriculum development, manages the service hub, the League of the Rising Hawks, and advises students on leadership and civic engagement experiences that support student development.
Duties:
- Develops, plans, promotes, and facilitates leadership development programs and events. Stays current with trends and innovations in student leadership development and civic responsibility. Supports late night and weekend programs as needed.
- Responsible for recruitment and support for students participating in League of the Rising Hawks. Collaborates with campus partners to identify opportunities that align with the student co-curricular experience, communicates opportunities to participants, and identifies new experiences that align with program goals. Manages experience path in the student engagement platform.
- Coordinates and promotes ongoing community and civic engagement experiences. Supports Assistant Director in implementation of large-scale community and civic engagement events hosted by the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership.
- Responsible for the recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and ongoing development of office student leaders, including HLI peer facilitators, mentors, and democracy fellows.
- Advises and provides resources to students seeking to develop new leadership skills and get more involved in community and civic engagement experiences through collaboration with alumni, faculty, staff, local government agencies and non-profit organizations.
- Manages and maintains service hub: communicates upcoming volunteer opportunities, connects students with community partners, and identifies new organizations and volunteer events in which students can participate.
- Responsible for assessing leadership and civic engagement experiences. Reports assessment initiatives and results to the Director and determines how learning outcomes align with the department’s mission, Division of Student Affairs goals, and university priorities.
- Collaborates with office staff on all department programs, special projects, and other community building events. Collaborates with staff outside of the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership to host events and activities. Serves on divisional and university-wide committees and advisory boards and performs related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Experience developing or facilitating student leadership development, civic engagement, or related experience.
- Knowledge of student development theories and best practices.
- Knowledge of group dynamics and supervision.
- Skills in collaborative event planning and coordination.
- Skills in project management and time management.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively on a team.
- Ability to critically assess situations and problem solve.
- Ability to train and develop student leaders, individually and in groups.
Desired Qualifications:
Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Educational Leadership or related field.
Experience working with student engagement platforms.
