The Electrician provides electrical installation, maintenance and repair to all facets of the university building infrastructure to ensure, safe, reliable power for all requirements. Responds to emergencies on weekends and holidays and after hours while ensuring prompt communications to employees and supervisors. Serves as a member of the campus hurricane ride-out crew. Hours: Monday – Friday 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Duties:

  • Troubleshoots and repairs all electrical systems as needed.
  • Repairs and maintains all interior lighting and receptacle panels, contactors, breakers and motor starters.
  • Maintains all outside lighting and timer systems.
  • Assists with planning, estimating, and ordering electrical materials for new projects and repair needs.
  • Assists with estimates of construction cost of electrical materials for projects.
  • Ensures safe work practices, takes care of work vehicle and all tools. Keeps tools and vehicle clean.
  • Conducts load analysis and provides recommendations for proper balance of loads, increased requirements, and future consideration.
  • Maintains material bench stock levels in material control and in truck stock.
  • Provides guidance, direction, and training to electrical helpers for optimum productivity and performs related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  1. High School diploma or GED.
  2. Five years of institutional or construction electrical experience in voltages up to and including 13,200 volts.
  3. Licensed as a Journeyman Electrician.
  4. Ability to diagnose failures in motors and determine corrective measures.
  5. Must be able to read and understand electrical blueprints and schematics.
  6. Knowledge of the national electrical code and local codes, and the ability to incorporate them into design and work.
  7. Knowledge of differing electrical test equipment and the ability to interpret the results.
  8. Ability to update electrical as built drawings.
  9. Criminal and motor vehicle background checks.

Preferred Qualifications:

Licensed as a Master Electrician
