Department: Dean, Architecture and Design Salary: Commensurate with experience

Description:

The Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design at The University of Houston seeks candidates for a promotion-eligible, non-tenure track, Instructional Assistant Professor focusing on the areas of Environmental Design. The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Design (BSED) degree plan represents an innovative response to the evolving demands of contemporary design education. Rooted in a trans-scalar design philosophy, the program integrates interdisciplinary coursework across Industrial Design (INDS), Interior Architecture (INAR), and Architecture (ARCH), delivered through an accelerated trimester model.

We seek candidates with intellectual curiosity, demonstrated design and scholarly recognition, as well as technical knowledge that can be translated into curricula, program vision, teaching, and scholarship. The appointment will come with traditional teaching (undergraduate and graduate architecture), and service load, but the overarching goal of this faculty hire is growing UH’s teaching enterprise and thus this will comprise a larger percentage of the appointment.

Qualifications
Qualified candidates must hold at least one degree in Architecture. Candidates must hold a Master Degree or Ph.D. in a design-related field, with a record of professional practice, scholarship, and teaching experience.

Candidates must demonstrate superior design, technical focus on sustainability, and strong representation skills with clarity in communication, and an openness to collaboration. Candidates with a strong commitment to innovative teaching practices, critical practice, and theoretical scholarship, all to empower the environmental design program. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.

Application
Only electronic applications will be accepted. Applicants should provide the following: a letter of intent responding to the outlined duties and qualifications, a curriculum vitae, a portfolio and publication samples with the candidate's role or responsibility clearly indicated, and contact information for three references.

Submit the application to: Prospective Faculty | Office of the Provost | University of Houston
