The Career Coach will provide guidance and support to UHCL students through holistic coaching strategies and best practices. This position will develop programming to enhance the career readiness and professional development of students while building relationships with students, faculty and staff through networking and proactive engagement. Additionally, this position will utilize appropriate platforms to promote department events and activities across the university. The Career Coach will assist staff in providing opportunities for students to connect and engage with the business community.
Duties:
- Perform individual and group coaching sessions to provide guidance and support to UHCL students. Assist and provide students with action plans based on their needs and goals. Document details of interactions and activities following coaching sessions within designated CRM.
- Maintain knowledge of various career paths, UHCL academic programs, and both local and national employment and experiential learning opportunities for students. Facilitate connections between students, faculty, and alumni for networking opportunities and other career programming.
- Develop and facilitate workshops, classroom presentations and other activities that cultivate knowledge and a further understanding of career readiness competencies. Ensure learning outcomes are created and outlined for participant understanding. Create post-activity surveys that align with the learning outcomes and associated career competencies (if applicable).
- Responsible for building and maintaining relationships with faculty and student organizations. Market services and on-campus events to students, faculty and staff.
- Evaluate services and programs, prepare status reports and formal recommendations for improvements associated with student engagement. Provide services at multiple UHCL locations.
- Utilize the Jobs4Hawks database to identify relevant full-time and experiential learning opportunities for assigned student caseload.
- Provide support for other functional areas of the department to ensure operational effectiveness. Actively participate and support all career programs. Cover required evening and weekend hours and perform related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Educational Leadership or related field.
- Previous experience supporting career services, career programs, and or job placement for students at a college or university career center.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- NACE Coaching Certification, MBTI, Strong Interest Inventory, and/or Strengths Finder certifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of foundational student development theory and student affairs models.
- Career assessment and coaching/counseling training. Solid understanding of job search strategies, labor market supply/demand, and employer's recruitment and interviewing methodologies.
- Knowledge of student engagement and career services products and platforms.
- Skills in interpreting career and leadership assessments.
- Skills in utilizing a variety of campus software platforms to run reports and analyze information.
- Skills in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and technology systems.
- Understand the coaching process, including the importance of the initial conversation, goal setting, and active listening.
- Ability to interact with students and faculty to provide assistance and guidance to effectively meet their needs.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively on a team.
- Ability to effective communicate using various methods.
- Strong knowledge of student development theory and best practices in higher education.
