Description:

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering Technology at the University of Houston – Downtown (UHD) invites applications for one tenure-track Assistant Professor to teach in the Engineering Technology programs. We are seeking outstanding candidates with industrial experience and expertise in chemical process engineering, environmental engineering, process automation and control systems, or piping engineering. Candidates with a chemical engineering/engineering technology, environmental engineering/engineering technology, electrical engineering/engineering technology or mechanical engineering/engineering technology terminal degree will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates with professional licenses and certifications. The appointment will start in Fall 2026.

Candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate engineering technology courses, establish an externally funded research program, and provide service and leadership to the campus and the professional community.

Note: This position does not support the computer science or cybersecurity program of the department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence
• Demonstrate a commitment to research/scholarship excellence
• Demonstrate a commitment to service excellence
• Prepare and teach undergraduate engineering technology courses using different modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, online)
• Advise and mentor students
• Play an active role in facilitating job opportunities for students by establishing and maintaining industry contacts
• Demonstrate a commitment to program review, assessment, and accreditation activities
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support the program and the department

Required Qualifications:
• A doctoral degree in engineering or engineering technology with a focus in chemical, environmental, electrical, or mechanical engineering/engineering technology

Preferred Qualifications:
• At least, three years of consecutive and verifiable industrial experience in the United States
• Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Strong publication record
• Potential for teaching at the university level
• Potential for grant writing
• Professional licenses and certifications
• Experience in curriculum development and improvement
• Experience in program review and accreditation such as ABET
