Job Summary

The Assistant Director executes the strategic vision for Continuing Education, and provides operational oversight for the design, implementation, and evaluation of continuing education, workforce development, and micro-learning credential programs. This position collaborates with university departments, faculty, staff, and external partners to ensure high-quality, relevant, and accessible programming that promotes upskilling and student success. The Assistant Director supports institutional goals by managing program operations, instructional delivery, marketing efforts, data analytics, and fiscal processes.

Duties

  • Collaborates with faculty to design and produce accessible, high-quality instructional materials for face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses, ensuring pedagogical effectiveness and alignment with university branding.
  • Delivers and/or facilitates workshops, bootcamps, and credentialed programs as needed.
  • Coordinates curriculum development in partnership with faculty and staff.
  • Ensures compliance with program accreditation, institutional policies, and best practices in adult learning.
  • Oversees course scheduling, registration, classroom logistics, and student support processes.
  • Manages database systems (e.g., Xenegrade or similar), ensuring accurate records of courses, enrollment, grades, evaluations, and instructional materials.
  • Coordinates events, trainings, and continuing education activities including logistics, catering, communication, and invoicing.
  • Assists in developing and managing program budgets in collaboration with the Executive Director or senior leadership.
  • Oversees grants, donations, and scholarships, ensuring compliance with financial and regulatory requirements.
  • Manages contracts, purchasing, payroll, adjunct assignments, and other financial processes.
  • Builds and maintains partnerships with industry, community organizations, and academic units to expand programming opportunities.

Supervision Given:

  • Has primary responsibility for conducting performance evaluations and making recommendations for hiring and dismissing employees.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required in a related field

Required Experience:

  • 5 years of progressively responsible experience in continuing education, workforce development, or higher education program administration, including at least three years of supervisory experience.

License/Certification:

  • None Required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience with learning management systems (e.g. Xenegrade), project management, and/or budget oversight in a higher education or workforce setting.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of adult education, continuing education trends, and workforce training models.
  • Financial acumen and experience with budgeting, purchasing, and financial reporting.

Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and team building skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in project management, data analysis, and student information systems.

Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse university community, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and evaluate high-impact learning programs.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Work Location and Physical Demands

Primary Work Location:

  • Works in an office environment.

Physical Demands:

  • Work is performed in a typical interior work environment, which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements.
  • Individual has discretion in relation to walking, standing, etc., and has minimal exposure to physical risks.
  • Must have precise hand-eye coordination, good spatial awareness, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Must have the ability to move items of up to 20 lbs.
