Provides public information to the media regarding the university's administration, faculty, staff and students. Disseminates material about university research, activities, academic events and awards.

Job Duties
1. Responds to media queries received via phone, fax and internet from local, national and international news sources; keeps abreast of news development to respond appropriately.
2. Initiates positive coverage of the university through well-targeted press releases, tip sheets, pitch letters, or phone calls to media outlets.
3. Maintains daily contact with top level administrators and faculty to keep abreast of on-going research, teaching and service activities in order to generate story ideas and to be aware of potential crisises.
4. Conducts interviews and thoroughly investigates selected activities to write press releases, stories for internal publications, etc.
5. Develops and implements public relations strategies/marketing plans for conferences and other particularly significant programs or events; develops communications plan to overt potential problem.
6. Identifies, researches and writes feature stories for UH magazine(s) and assists with editing the magazine(s).
7. Provides work direction and guidance to interns.
8. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MQ:

Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.

Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job-related experience.
