Description:

Provides technical assistance in the care of laboratory animals. Administers anesthesia, provides management of surgical patients and carries out treatments prescribed by the veterinarian.

1. Provides pre- and post- operative management of critical and non-critical surgical patients.
2. Performs anesthetic induction, maintenance and monitoring for animals undergoing surgical procedures.
3. Cleans, disinfects, and prepares equipment, instruments and surgery suites for surgical procedures.
4. Performs diagnostic test procedures such as hematology, serum chemistries, parasitological exams, EKGs, and radiological exams.
5. Monitors and maintains health surveillance programs, rodent sentinel testing, rodent quarantine procedures, and non-human primate tuberculosis testing.
6. Performs daily health rounds of laboratory animals.
7. Performs quality control testing to ensure adequate disinfection of surgery suites, rooms and equipment.
8. Provides life support for veterinary emergencies.
9. Maintains records of patient care and treatment, and quarantine testing results.
10. Provides training in proper handling of laboratory animals and aseptic techniques.
11. Performs rodent litter weaning, maintaining daily rodent census and printing of rodent cage cards.
12. Provides enrichment and produce to non-human primates. Maintenance and upkeep of diet prep room.
13. Provide inventory maintenance and ordering of veterinary supplies 14. Performs other job-related duties assigned.

MQ: Education: Requires specialized training in basic trades, principles, procedures, practice, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level. Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required. Required: Completion of an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA?) program that graduates veterinary technicians and/or veterinary technologists. Experience: Requires a minimum of one (1) years of directly job-related experience after graduation from an AVMA CVTEA program. Certification/Licensing: Requires technical certification or licensing directly related to the job, as specified on the job posting details. Preferred: Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT). Must obtain Occupational Health Clearance for working with all animals.
