Department: SSI College Advising Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.

The Senior Academic Advisor provides advanced academic advising and operational support for undergraduate and graduate programs in the College of Science and Engineering (CSE). This position coordinates complex student cases, mentors new advisors, and ensures accuracy in degree audits, prerequisite reviews, and graduation processing. This role also leads initiatives to improve advising efficiency and student success outcomes.

Duties:

  • Advises students on academic requirements, degree progression, and University policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with CSE departments, faculty, and university partners to resolve student, curricular, and system issues.
  • Analyzes and processes degree plans, petitions, graduation applications and other academic processes needed.
  • Maintains accurate advising documentation and standardized templates.
  • Supports student orientation, outreach, retention initiatives, and performs related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree
  2. Three years of academic advising experience in a higher education setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree
  2. Experience with engagement in professional academic advising professional organizations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of various approaches in academic advising.
  • Knowledge of effective collaboration methods.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
  • Skills in Microsoft Office 365.
  • Skills in Academic Advising technology.
  • Notetaking skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as strong critical thinking and listening skills.
  • Ability to assimilate large amounts of information, recall that information as well as the ability to understand and interpret policies and procedures.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and handle numerous tasks with frequent interruptions with strong attention to detail.
