Description:

The School of Theatre and Dance (SoTD) at the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts at the University of Houston is now accepting applications for a nine-month position as the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center Scholar in Residence in Theatre for the 2025-2026 academic year. The successful candidate will reside in Houston for the duration of the residency and have expertise in theatre and performance, specifically in Musical Theatre and Musical Theatre direction. The ideal candidate will have the ability to teach in the areas of directing, musical theatre history, and interdisciplinary arts.

The position of Mitchell Center Scholar in Residence is designed for a post-graduate candidate (MFA or PhD) of the highest caliber in their respective field with a strong interest in interdisciplinary studies. The candidates are expected to engage with the programs of the Mitchell Center and SoTD, as well vigorously pursue their creative/scholarly activities.
This position is a nine-month appointment with a 1/1 teaching load and option for renewal as determined by the department. The mainstage musical would have a complete production budget and design team.

The Theatre Scholar in Residence will:
• Teach one class per semester
• Direct or Direct/Choreograph a mainstage musical
• Generate an interdisciplinary event, research, exhibition or performance during the residency
• Attend monthly meetings with the Director of Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center and engage with seasonal events in both CWMCA and SoTD

Salary is $45,000 with a $1250 budget for project support.

Qualifications
Applicants must have completed a graduate degree in theatre (either MFA or PhD).
Applicants should have definitive interdisciplinary research interests they wish to pursue while a Scholar in Residence.

Official transcripts are required for a faculty appointment and will be requested upon selection of the final candidates. All positions at the University of Houston are security sensitive and will require a criminal background check.
