Department: Department of Pharmacy Practice and Translational Research Salary: Commensurate with experience

Description:

The Fellowship in Academic Pharmacy at the University of Houston College of Pharmacy (UHCOP) is a 12-month postgraduate training opportunity for practicing pharmacists to obtain advanced practice, teaching and research experience with a member institution of the Texas Medical Center (TMC), the world's largest medical center with more than 50 health-system, academic and non-profit healthcare related institutions.

The purpose of the program is to prepare pharmacists for a career in pharmacy education through training in teaching, curriculum development, college service, mentoring, scholarship, and clinical practice. The fellow will be exposed to a variety of teaching responsibilities, such as lecturing, facilitating small group-based learning, course coordination, and student assessment.

In addition to extensive academic experience, the fellow will also participate in direct patient care rotations based on their fields of interest. The training year will consist of approximately 60-70% teaching and academic related duties and 30-40% clinical practice rotations. Highlights of the training program include participating on multiple college-wide committees, extensive teaching experience, and flexible clinical practice opportunities. At the end of the training program, the academic fellow will be well prepared for a career in academia. The fellow will be based out of UHCOP's new nine-story, 300,000-square-foot Health 2 Building, which opened in July 2017 and features Sterile Products Laboratory, OSCE Suites, active-learning classrooms, and other state-of-the-art instructional and research facilities.
