Department: Student Health Center Salary: $56,800 - $64,600

Description:

Provides professional nursing care in an organized, effective manner in the general medicine and specialty clinics at the UH Student Health Center. Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of nursing theory.

1. Screen and schedule patient appointments according to their health care needs.
2. Communicate symptoms and any acute conditions to provider.
3. Administer first aid and assist in emergency situations.
4. Provide assistance with complex procedures and the treatment of a diverse patient population.
5.Triage, assess and evaluate vital signs.
6. Consent and educate patients on treatment procedures and the use of necessary medical equipment.
7. Administer medication as prescribed by provider.
8. Perform EKG, venipuncture, collect and process laboratory specimens, and perform POC diagnostic procedures.
9. Assess appropriateness of immunization visits and immunize per CDC guidelines and/or provider order.
10. Communicate with the health center Chief Nurse on relevant patient concerns, emergencies or follow up.
11. Monitor health center equipment and restock exam/treatment rooms.
12. Educate patients on basic health principles including sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
13. Delegate appropriate tasks to licensed vocational nurses and medical assistants.
14. Confidentially transmit patient EMR to collaborative provider/or facility. Follow up on patient regarding provider's treatment plan or referral. Document all correspondence in EMR.
15. Participate in health center quality assurance projects and UH campus and community health fairs.
16. Performance of other job-related duties as assigned.

MQ: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job-related experience. Requires professional licensing, certification or registration directly related to the job, as specified on a job description addendum.
