Description:

Produces content programs for Houston Public Media (HPM).

1. Pitches, develops and produces media content, both digital and broadcast, in accordance with PBS Editorial Standards.

2. Integrates lower-level producers into project processes to better benefit the overall goals and objectives of HPM.

3. Keeps track of current events in the framework of organizational objectives.

4. Participates in project processes as needed and stays current on media landscape changes.

5. Performs other job-related duties as required.

MQ Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.

Experience: Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job-related experience.

  • Create and publish daily social posts tied to news and editorial content, with a focus on Instagram and other high-engagement platforms
  • Shoot and edit short-form vertical video, optimized for social media
  • Be a creative presence both behind the camera and (potentially) on camera
  • Collaborate with our talk shows and newsroom to grow their social media reach and engagement
  • Analyze web and social metrics to generate reports, track performance, and inform content strategy
  • Assist as needed with newsletters, campaigns, fundraising and cross-departmental digital support
  • Contribute to long-term planning and strategy

Our ideal candidate will bring:

  • One or more years of experience producing and managing social content across digital platforms
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (especially Photoshop, Premiere Pro)
  • A solid understanding of social media trends, platform best practices, and digital storytelling
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a deadline-driven.
  • Experience with content management systems and Google Analytics or similar analytics systems
