Description:

Police Officer I, II, III (Pool)

By applying for this requisition, you will be placed in an applicant pool for Police Officer positions.
Applicants will be determined by the hiring manager and the needs of the department, and the position may vary based on the applicant's experience and education/certification.

Police Officers perform a variety of duties to ensure that the university campus is a safe environment for faculty, staff, students, and visitors by preserving the peace, preventing and detecting crime, enforcing the law, and protecting the rights of all citizens.

DUTIES 

  • Enforces state and federal laws, along with university policies
  • Enforces traffic laws, conducting traffic stops and issuing citations and violations as appropriate
  • Patrols assigned areas to protect persons and property
  • Performs building checks, doing extensive foot patrols, indoors and outdoors
  • Detects and solves crimes; makes arrests, collects evidence, writes reports, and testifies in court as necessary
  • Responds to emergency calls
  • Assists students, faculty, and staff with questions and problems they may have
  • Prepares reports as necessary
  • Trains new incoming police officers (PO II & III)
  • Deters criminal activity by being very visible and active

QUALIFICATIONS

Police Officer I

  • No experience necessary
  • Must maintain a valid, current driver's license
  • Police officer certification is required
  • TCOLE License or in an Accredited Police Academy

Police Officer II

  • Minimum of three (3) year of related job experience
  • Must maintain a valid, current driver's license
  • Police officer certification is required
  • TCOLE certification is required

Police Officer III

  • Minimum of four (4) years of related job experience
  • Must maintain a valid, current driver's license
  • Police officer certification is required
  • TCOLE certification is required
