Description:

Serves as a commissioned law enforcement officer responsible for protecting persons and property for the University of Houston. Endeavors to detect and prevent crime in order to maintain peace, order and security.

1. Enforces all laws, including but not limited to, penal and traffic laws.

2. Patrols assigned area on foot or in a police vehicle.

3. Responds to all calls for assistance, service, and hazardous situations.

4. Conducts preliminary investigations of reported incidents, completes required reports.

5. Conducts crime prevention program presentations.

6. Attends required annual training seminars.

7. Utilizes police equipment such as firearm, baton, handcuffs, mobile and handheld radios, camera and other equipment.

8. Performs other job-related duties are assigned.

No experience is required. Requires technical certification or licensing directly related to the job, as specified on a job description addendum.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be at least 21 years of age and have a clear Texas driver's license.

The applicant must be TCOLE (formerly TCLEOSE) certified.

Must pass a Criminal History and valid TX Driver's License check prior to an interview.

Must be able to work nights, weekends, and overtime assignments.

Must pass Background Investigation prior to employment.

Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.

UHPD requires all applicants to complete the criminal history fields on them application. Applicants with incomplete criminal history fields will not be considered for a position.

•DOB

•Driver’s license

•Last 4 digits of SSN

 

Veterans are strongly encouraged to apply and will receive preference in employment over other applicants for the same position who do not have a greater qualification.

 

Military experience will only be considered if Military Police or Security related responsibilities in your job functions. (Please attach a copy of your DD 214.)

 

The applicant must have successfully completed a TCOLE basic licensing course and passed the TCOLE licensing examination, or be within 45 days of completion of a

TCOLE recognized basic peace officer licensing course.

Salary will be based on years of experience

 

Additional Job Prerequisites:

Candidate for hire must have/or be able to obtain a Texas Driver's License at the time of a bona fide job offer. An applicant is required to pass multiple phases: i.e.:

-           Multiple types of reviews

-           Tests (oral and written)

-           Background check clearance

Applicants who do not pass their entrance exam will be eligible to re-test in 30 days, up to three tries. After three attempts, the applicant will be eligible to re-apply after three months, if there is a Police Officer job posted.

Environmental:

The employee maybe exposed to inclement weather conditions, extensive public contact with student, faculty and staff.

 

Employees are required to work various assigned shifts, including days, evenings, nights and weekends and may be required to remain at their post for an additional shift. All staff are “essential personnel” and are required to report to work during inclement weather.

All positions at the University of Houston-System are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check.
