Department: Library Salary: $15.80 - $17.16 hourly

Description:

The W.I. Dykes Library seeks a temporary Library Assistant to support public services operations, primarily in circulation. This position plays a key role in ensuring library users have seamless access to resources and services while maintaining accurate records and providing excellent customer service.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily circulation operations, including checking materials in and out, processing holds, and maintaining patron accounts
  • Handle intercampus delivery requests, including shipping materials and processing holds
  • Assist students and faculty in locating both physical and electronic library resources
  • Track daily library usage through electronic gate count systems
  • Supervise student workers and delegate tasks as needed
  • Perform necessary data entry and account maintenance
  • Support general customer service needs at public service points

Required Qualifications: 

  • 30 hours of college coursework 
  • Minimum of one (1) year of job-related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Library of Congress and Dewey Decimal classification systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and SharePoint
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to maintain accurate records
  • Experience providing customer service 
  • Experience working in a library or similar environment

  • Must be able to work evening and weekend hours
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Strong commitment to serving a diverse university community
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities effectively

Position Details:

  • This is a temporary position without benefits eligibility
  • Schedule includes evening and weekend hours
