The Department of Natural Sciences (NS) at the University of Houston-Downtown is seeking a dedicated individual to fill the role of full-time Lecturer in Biology starting Fall 2026. The position is a 9-month renewable appointment.

This full-time position will entail teaching 15 contact hours per semester which is typically five classes. The primary responsibilities will include teaching lower-level biology courses for science and non-science majors. Upper-level courses may be assigned based on the individuals’ areas of expertise and departmental needs.  Additional duties include participation in the ongoing program assessment and contributing to the department’s overall instructional mission through involvement in curriculum development and programmatic improvement. In specific cases, minor service activities may be included in the appointment with a concomitant reduction in teaching load, at the discretion of the department chairperson.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have at least an MS in Biology or a related field
  • Possess a strong record of teaching undergraduate courses in the biological sciences relevant to the job posting

Preferred Experience:

  • Ph.D.in Biology or a related field
  • Experience in teaching either Microbiology or Anatomy & Physiology courses
  • Experience in utilizing diverse teaching and learning pedagogical approaches
  • Proficiency in instructional technology, online instruction, and effective course design in a variety of course modalities (face-to-face, online, hybrid, etc.)
  • Evidence of professional development in diverse teaching and learning pedagogical approaches
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in program assessment activities
