Lecturer

The University of Houston-Downtown invites applications for two lecturer positions to support the First-Year Composition (FYC) program in the Department of English. The positions are full-time and non-tenure-track. The teaching load is 5/5, typically consisting of five sections of FYC courses per long semester. These courses include ENG 1300: Integrated Reading and Writing, ENG 1301:
Composition I, and ENG 1302: Composition II. Faculty will teach primarily or entirely in-person, starting in August 2026. This is a one-year appointment with the possibility of annual renewal.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Rhetoric and Composition, English, or other relevant field by the time of initial appointment
- Experience teaching first-year writing
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition, English, or other relevant field by the time of initial appointment
- Experience working with first-generation college students
- Experience teaching online, both synchronous and asynchronous
- Experience teaching technical or professional writing
