Description:

Manages the day-to-day operations of a small or medium-sized university program or department. May supervise staff employees, student workers, programs or processes.

1. Plans and develops procedures for administering a small or medium-sized department or program.
2. Oversees program expenditures and ensures adherence to budget.
3. Provides guidance to subordinate staff and evaluates performance.
4. May prepare or participate in the creation of abstracts, research reports, funding proposals, operations and procedure manuals, and other written material and documentation.
5. Reviews reports of budgets and activities.
6. Prepares ad hoc reports as needed.
7. May administer grants and grant-related related communications, scholarships and other operations.
8. Develops, implements and maintains appropriate policies and procedures.
9. May serve as property custodian for the department.
10. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MQ:
Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Experience: No experience required.

The Center for Student Involvement (CSI) at the University of Houston provides services for Registered Student Organizations (RSOs), opportunities for students to connect through various leadership development, service, and social programs, and supports six University Sponsored Organizations (USOs). We Connect students to each other and programs on campus, help them Discover their passions, and Engage with the community around them.

About the Position

The Program Manager for Leadership and Civic Engagement supports Lead UH and Serve UH programs in CSI. The Program Manager is an integral member of the CSI team and supports department initiatives. The successful candidate will:

  • Coordinate and facilitate the Ignite Leadership Program, including selection and training for Peer Mentors, marketing, recruitment and selection of participants, and oversee the curriculum.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the Impact Living Learning Community (LLC), which connects its residents with the Houston community through the lens of community service.
  • Collaborate with campus departments and community partners to implement leadership development programs.
  • Support Lead UH programs by coordinating leadership certificates, market programs to students, and oversee upkeep of records tracking of student progression and completion.
  • Manage the marketing and tracking of the President’s Volunteer Service Award through volunteer service hour tracking.
  • Assist in developing an online resource bank for leadership, civic engagement, and community service opportunities.
  • Create, implement, and coordinate Constitution Day events and initiatives.
  • Supervise a Graduate Assistant who assists with the advising and functioning of LCE development initiatives.
  • Support the implementation of LCE signature programs, such as but not limited to Days of Service and Civic Engagement programs.
  • Participate in the implementation and staffing of large-scale events requiring the presence of CSI staff, including, but not limited to, Weeks of Welcome, Homecoming, Frontier Fiesta, and Shasta’s Night Out. Some nights and weekends required.
  • Serve on university and division standing and ad-hoc committees and task forces as necessary.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
