Job Summary

The Labor Technician relocates and sets up furniture and performs other miscellaneous functions in support of university events and projects.

Duties

  • Relocates, organizes, and sets up furniture
  • Assists with event set-ups
  • Assists carpenters, painters, and electricians
  • Provides assistance as necessary in the A/C shop
  • Cleans construction sites
  • Operates machinery as necessary to complete tasks

Marginal Duties

  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of general safety protocols in a public area and of the related trends, issues, and accepted practices

  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community

Work Location and Physical Demands

Primary Work Location:

  • Works in maintenance and custodial rooms

Physical Demands:

  • Work involves moderate exposure to unpleasant elements, such as adverse weather conditions, extreme temperatures, oils, dirt, dust, fumes, and airborne particles
  • Position requires maintaining the physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, or walking for prolonged periods of time, as well as for bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, jumping, climbing, and frequent reaching
  • May, on rare occasions, be required to work in a confined space, in a high, dangerous place, or be exposed to vibration
  • Must have precise hand-eye coordination, good spatial awareness, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors
  • Must have the ability to move items of up to 100lbs

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of related job experience

License/Certification:

  • Must maintain a valid, current driver's license

  • None
