Graduate Teaching Assistant – College of Sciences and Technology

The Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) in the College of Sciences and Technology serves primarily as a general assistant to the instructional process. GTAs support faculty by attending assigned classes, assisting with class activities, grading assignments, holding office hours, tutoring students, mentoring peers, and engaging in other activities that contribute to the instructional mission of the University. Selected students may be placed in various areas within the department based on program needs and academic background.

DUTIES

  • Interfaces primarily with an assigned professor in the MSDA or MSAI program
  • Attends and assists in an assigned graduate-level class (approximately 3 hours per week)
  • Holds office hours for the assigned class and tutors students across all sections of the same course (approximately 10 hours per week)
  • Grades papers, examinations, and other assignments (approximately 4 hours per week)
  • Supports additional instructional activities as needed and as time permits
  • Represents the College at internal and external recruiting events (twice per semester)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be admitted to either the MSDA or MSAI program
  • Must have at least half of the program’s credit hours of coursework remaining after Spring 2025
  • A teaching assistant who supports STAT 5301 must have completed STAT 5301 or equivalent
  • A teaching assistant who supports CS 5301 must have completed CS 5301 or equivalent
  • A teaching assistant who supports CS 5302 must have completed CS 5302 or equivalent
