Job Summary

The Financial Aid Counselor II assists prospective and current students with all matters related to acquiring and maintaining financial aid.

Duties

  • Completes the verification process for students; verifies that the information provided on FAFSA correctly reflects the information on the IRS Tax Transcript
  • Reviews each ISIR file to determine if it needs to be loaded into PeopleSoft for review
  • Reviews student Satisfactory Academic Plan appeals
  • Determines if progress has been made
  • Suspends students and removes aid if no progress is made
  • Liaises with students as necessary via email, phone, or in-person to keep them up-to-date with their status
  • Runs reports and queries

  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of related job experience

License/Certification:

  • None required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of federal and state regulations that govern financial aid eligibility in higher education, and the related trends, issues, and accepted practices
  • Knowledge of relevant Department of Education websites, including COD, NSLDS. and FAA Access

Skills:

  • Good technical skills, including proficiency in MS Office and PeopleSoft; strong analytical and problem
    • solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Abilities:

  • Ability to use independent judgment
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community

Work Location and Physical Demands

Primary Work Location:

  • Works in an office environment

Physical Demands:

  • Work is performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements
  • Individual has discretion in relation to walking, standing etc., and has minimal exposure to physical risks
  • Must have precise hand-eye coordination and the ability to identify and distinguish colors
  • Must have the ability to move items of up to 15lbs
