Description:

Hours: Must be available to work up to 19.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Note: Must be eligible for Federal Work-Study during the Fall and Spring semesters. Work-Study is not applicable for summer employment. Scheduling will depend on student availability and departmental needs. No experience is required; however, previous customer service experience is preferred.

Duties

Student workers provide administrative and customer service support to the Accessible Education Center (AEC), which may include:

  • Answering phones in a professional, courteous, and welcoming manner.
  • Greeting and assisting visitors as they enter the office.
  • Organizing and maintaining electronic and physical files.
  • Printing, copying, scanning, and preparing documents.
  • Assisting with special projects and other office-related tasks.

This list is not exhaustive. Student workers are expected to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in supporting the needs of the AEC.

  • Assists UHD students who visit the office for a variety of reasons, including inquiries about services, intake appointments, testing services, accommodation letters, and locating campus resources.
  • Helps maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming office environment. Responsibilities may include restocking supplies, organizing materials, wiping down common areas, and ensuring the office remains presentable for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Learns and support the use of various assistive and accessible technology systems utilized by the AEC.
  • Assists with outreach activities, special events, and resource fairs. Responsibilities may include distributing promotional materials, explaining the mission and services of the AEC, assisting students with applications or interest forms, and engaging with the campus community.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality and complete all required training related to privacy and data protection. Because AEC staff regularly work with sensitive student information, violations of confidentiality may result in disciplinary action, including termination of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including typing and the use of common office software applications.
  • Legible handwriting and/or reliable access to a laptop or computer.
  • Excellent customer service skills and a professional, friendly demeanor.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive information.
  • Dependable, punctual, and reliable.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies, systems, and processes.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and follow directions effectively.
  • Ability to multitask and contribute positively to a team environment.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Must be a current UHD student 
  • Must have been awarded Federal College Work-Study from the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid
