Description:

The Executive Director of Academic Advising is responsible for the strategic leadership of academic advising across the four colleges. The position reports to the Associate Vice President of Student Success and Initiatives and has direct supervision over the College Academic Advising Managers who lead each of the four college advising departments. The Executive Director is responsible for the strategic vision of academic advising and collaboration of college administration and faculty to develop and maintain an academic advising model conducive to the holistic development of students.

Duties: 

  • Provides vision, leadership, and management for the development, implementation, and assessment of the university-wide academic advising program and initiatives.
  • Supervises, trains, and develops a team of professional college Academic Advising Managers.
  • Develops and manages the budget for the four college advising departments.
  • Develops and administers assessments, utilizes results to report impact and make data-informed decisions based on strategic impact metrics.
  • Develops and leads professional development/training for leadership and staff across the four college advising departments.
  • Evaluates technology needs and supervises advising-based workflow in Navigate and PeopleSoft platforms and performs related  duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: 

  1. Master's degree in higher education administration, advising, student affairs, counseling, or a related field.
  2. Minimum seven years of related experience in academic advising or higher education.
  3. Three years of supervisory or managerial experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree.
  • Ten years of related experience in academic advising, student services and/or higher education. Five years of supervisory or managerial experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in Academic Advising.
  • Knowledge of assessment of Advising programs.
  • Skills in budget development and management.
  • Skills in Microsoft Office, familiarity with PeopleSoft and EAB Navigate.
  • Ability to work in a complex organization with multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to supervise and manage advising department(s) including the ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team of academic advisors.
  • Must have strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
