Summary
The Director of Wellness and Health Promotion is responsible for leading health education and wellness programs and services and collaborating towards a health promoting campus. They provide departmental leadership and program direction for the UH Wellness team including strategic planning; program development, implementation, and assessment; team member recruitment and leadership; marketing and communications; as well as resource planning, procurement, and management. The Director must demonstrate a commitment to student success, health and wellbeing, collaboration, and service while exhibiting strong leadership, organizational skills, teamwork, and innovative thinking.

Job Duties
1.Leads health education and wellness programs and services that contribute to a health promoting campus and wellbeing.
•Develop and implement the UH Wellness strategic plan.
•Develop and implement comprehensive programs and services that meet the needs of all UH students so that they can Be Well to
•Do Well, considering all dimensions, health promotion actions, and continuum of care.
•Direct the collection and analysis of student health data to track trends and inform programs and services decision-making.
•Develop and administer policies and procedures in support of the UH Wellness mission.

2.Leads the UH Wellness Team Member Experience.
•Determine appropriate staffing needs for supporting the UH Wellness strategic plan.
•Recruit, select, supervise, and mentor professional and student staff (interns, graduate assistants, etc.).
•Coordinate and plan for appropriate work distribution and collaboration among team members.
•Support ongoing learning and professional development of team members.

3.Develop, implement, and manage the UH Wellness brand in alignment with the Health and Wellbeing team, Division of Student Affairs, and University of Houston branding.

•In collaboration with University Marketing and Communications, oversee the development and implementation of marketing and communications materials and activities for broad health communications, health education, and promotion to recruit student participation in UH Wellness programs and services.
•Oversee the development and implementation of marketing and communications materials and activities to educate stakeholders and the community about wellness and the benefits and success of the UH Wellness program.
•Communicate to engage stakeholders, collaborators, and partners to support the UH Wellness and Health and Wellbeing mission.
•Collaborate with community partners to further health promotion efforts.

4.Determines and manages appropriate financial, facility, equipment, technology, and other resource needs for supporting the UH Wellness strategic plan.
•Develop and manage the UH Wellness budget, financial transactions, and reporting.
•Plan for and oversee the operational management of UH Wellness facilities including working with partners in Campus Recreation and Facilities.
•Plan and oversee the procurement and management of equipment, supplies, promotional items, and materials to support the program.
•Collaborate with advancement and other partners in proposal writing and other materials to secure grants, sponsorships, and philanthropic support for the program.

5.Contributes to the common agenda as a member of the Health and Wellbeing Leadership Team, building a philosophical approach of Be Well Do Well as a foundation for student success and contributing to a health promoting campus.
•Support and embed the Health and Wellbeing model within UH Wellness programming and advocate for it as a foundation for campus wide wellbeing.
•Collaborate with other Health and Wellbeing departments, where appropriate, to enhance comprehensive health and wellness programs and services, and lead strategies to create more wellbeing at the University of Houston.

6.Serves as a senior leader within the Division of Student Affairs, the University, and the industry.
•Contribute to planning, implementation, and assessment of the division’s strategic plan and ensuring the UH Wellness team’s engagement and alignment.
•Serve as a senior leader at the University of Houston including engagement (including committee participation) and alignment with strategy, brand, and activities.
•Represent UH Wellness on internal and external campus leadership groups to promote health, wellness, and wellbeing as a priority on campus.
•Consult and cultivate partnerships and collaborations with internal and external partners and stakeholders (including students, faculty, staff, and community) to ensure the success of UH Wellness and contribute to a health promoting campus.
•Serve as a leading industry expert locally, regionally, and nationally, contributing to the continued evolution of the field and enhancing the University of Houston’s reputation as a leader in wellness and health promotion.
•Serves as a senior leader within the Division of Student Affairs, the University, and the industry.

7.Performs other job-related duties as required.


MQ: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of seven (7) years of directly job-related experience.

Education Preferred: Master’s degree from an accredited university or college in health and wellness, health education, health promotion, public health, health science, higher education, or related field.

Experience Preferred: Ten (10) years of administrative experience in wellness, health education, health promotion, or related programs. Experience supervising professional staff and budget management. Broad knowledge of health and wellbeing in higher education including demonstrated engagement in higher education health, wellness, wellbeing associations, organizations, and networks such as ACHA, NASPA, NIRSA, USHPCN, ANEW, etc.

Certification/Licensing Preferred: Certification in health education, health promotion, wellness coaching, student affairs educator such as CHES, MCHES, CHWP, NBC-HWC, CSAEd, etc.
