The Division of Advancement and Alumni serves the University of Houston’s donor and alumni population and engages with many diverse constituencies to build long-lasting, valuable relationships with the University while generating financial investment and dynamic engagement opportunities in support of its mission, programs, research and academic initiatives.
Description:
Manages a portfolio of major gifts donors and prospects in support of university-wide initiatives or for one or more assigned colleges or units. Possesses a high level of knowledge and expertise on major gifts and fundraising in general, and at least a mid-level knowledge of planned giving.
1. Manages a portfolio of prospects which are mostly at the level of $100,000 or more.
2. Identifies, cultivates and solicits prospects and stewards donors; works with faculty, staff and volunteers as appropriate.
3. Provides guidance to the college or unit on major gifts and other development and fundraising matters.
4. If assigned to a college or unit, may be responsible for creating and implementing a development plan for components within the assigned college, including resource management.
5. May administer other advancement activities, such as alumni relations, publications, special events, media relations, etc. for assigned college or unit.
6. Participates in University-wide development activities as needed.
7. Performs other job-related duties as required.
MQ: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4-year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience.
Additional Information/Preferred Qualifications:
University of Houston is seeking a creative, entrepreneurial, and collaborative professional to join the fundraising team for our health colleges. In addition to the duties and requirements outlined above:
• Develops strategies and leads the solicitation of major gifts for three health colleges (Nursing, Optometry and Pharmacy) and institutional priorities.
• In collaboration with the prospect research team, and by using own research tools and practices, continues to identify new major and leadership gift prospects to build donor pipeline.
• Create, coordinate, and execute customized engagement opportunities for current and prospective donors, including but not limited to campus tours, meetings with students and/or faculty, celebration events, salon dinners, etc.
• Collaborates with college department chairs, program directors, faculty and staff to prepare and submit private funding proposals.
• Utilizes constituent relationship management database to coordinate donor plans and donor recognition as well as report on progress of activity.
• Experience in higher education and/or health care is preferred, but not required.
