Description:
Manages the day-to-day operations of a large university program or department, including the supervision of staff employees, student workers, programs or processes.
1. Plans and develops procedures for administering a large or complex department or program.
2. Manages fiscal activities, including procurement and budget analysis.
3. Provides guidance to subordinate staff and evaluates performance.
4. Prepares abstracts, research reports, funding proposals, operations and procedure manuals, and other written material and documentation.
5. Creates and reviews reports of expenditures and activities.
6. May administer grants and grant-related related communications, scholarships and other operations.
7. Develops, implements and maintains appropriate policies and procedures.
8. May serve as property custodian for the department.
9. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Program Manager Job Duties
• Manage and oversee two CIR leadership programs including the Source of Strength
and QUEST Leadership Programs. Such oversight involves the recruiting and training
of student leader participants, facilitating over 10 workshops each semester,
tracking attendance data, and ensuring all program participants are meeting their
said commitments.
• Assists the Program Director in preparing semi-annual reports, annual reports,
assessment plans, five-year plans, student fee advisory committee (SFAC)
questionnaires, operations and procedural documents.
• Collects, consolidates, and interprets diverse data points from CIR hosted events
and programming. Such data include attendance, utilization, academic GPAs, etc.
which is integral information included in the utilization, semi-annual, and annual
reporting.
• Serves as the direct report for the recruiting, hiring, and supervision of College Work
Study (CWS) students for the department.
• Generates timely monthly expenditure request forms to Department Business
Administrator to ensure program is accurately reporting expenses and that the
program stays within budget limits.
• Co-facilitate the campus wide Recovery Ally Training twice during the Fall and
Spring semesters.
• Serves as the property custodian to ensure the Cougars in Recovery department's
inventory is in good standing as set forth by the University of Houston.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned:
o Effectively and efficiently facilitate crisis interventions, following a solution oriented
approach, to CIR student members and the student body at large
regarding their recovery, mental health, and academics on a scheduled,
walk-in, and emergency basis.
o Serve as a liaison between on and o8 campus resources including but not
limited to mental health, recovery, and academics.
o Advocate for students by writing letters of recommendation for graduate
school, professors, etc.
o Event planning through co-hosting and preparing for the annual Graduation
Celebration event with program director. This includes gathering and
organizing attendee RSVPs and other pertinent information, recruiting and
building a volunteer committee to support with planning and execution of the
event.
o Travel planning to local and national state parks for the Outdoor Adventure
Learning Experience. This includes creating a list of food and camping items
required for the trip, administering and receiving student waivers for
participation.
o Create social media content and flyers for upcoming events and program
announcements.
o Attend tabling and outreach events on and o8 campus to represent the
program and recruit students.
MQ: Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Experience: Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job-related experience. Certification/Licensing: None.
