Description:

The Coordinator of Employer Relations develops and maintains relationships with potential employers of UHCL students. Manages on-campus recruiting events and activities, as well as the Jobs4Hawks database. In coordination with Career Coaches, leads Career Services programming and events, which include employers and other community partners. Coordinates marketing of events via social media platforms to students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Oversees the distribution of departmental student career outcomes surveys.

Duties:

  • Advises prospective recruiters on academic programs offered at UHCL and the unique strengths of UHCL students to increase full-time employment opportunities. Maintains relationships with existing corporate recruiters through employer visits, telephone calls, e-mails, and face-to-face contact. Works directly with recruiters and hiring managers to identify and pre-screen candidates and facilitate interviews.
  • In collaboration with career coaches, creates employer led workshops on career readiness topics and delivers programming to inform and educate students on a broad range of career pathways. Works with employers to promote usage of interview rooms for mock interviews and campus recruitment events.
  • Manages department events including: All Majors Career Fair, Internship Fair, Teacher Job Fair, Career Weeks, networking events, and all similar events and programs. Ensures job fair registration process is sufficient, catering has been secured, applicable supplies have been procured, and appropriate facilities are reserved.
  • Participates in strategic planning and assessment for employer outreach in collaboration with the Program Manager of Employer Relations & Experiential Learning. Manages student registration and selection for on-campus recruiting according to policy, procedure, and employer criteria.
  • Ensures employers are aware of Jobs4Hawks (Handshake) platform and provides information on registration and how to engage with UHCL students. Oversees Jobs4Hawks student registration process and initiating marketing campaigns for activation and profile completion. Utilizes survey database and other instruments to collect career outcomes data.
  • Tracks and records the campus engagement activities of all corporate partners. Researches and reports trends, as needed.
  • In collaboration with department staff, creates content and relevant information to share with students and alumni on appropriate departmental social media channels. Monitors social media content to ensure it is following departmental and university standards for conduct.
  • Provides support for other functional areas of the department to ensure operational effectiveness. Attends staff and University meetings and professional conferences/meetings as assigned. Covers required evening and weekend hours and performs related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's Degree
  2. Knowledge of job search strategies, labor market supply/demand, and employer's recruitment and interviewing methodologies.
  3. Knowledge of student engagement and career services products and platforms.
  4. Skills in utilizing student engagement platforms, or client-based CRMs to run reports and analyze data.
  5. Skills in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  6. Ability to understand the employer engagement process, including the importance of the initial conversation and active listening.
  7. Ability to assess and problem solve effectively to address employer needs and formulate solutions.
  8. Knowledge of NACE career competencies and best practices related to employer relations.
  9. Ability to effectively express thoughts and ideas verbally and through written communication.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Educational Leadership or related field.

Previous experience supporting career services, career programs, and or job placement for students at a college or university career center.

Experience working with Handshake or other career services and assessment platforms. 

Strong knowledge of workforce trends and hiring best practices.

Strong knowledge of student development theory and best practices in higher education.

Bilingual (English/Spanish)
