Description:

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Houston seeks an exceptional scholar to expand its research and educational programs in environmental engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor. Areas of particular research interest include, but are not limited to, air quality engineering; environmental sensing and monitoring; indoor air quality and the built environment; emerging environmental pollutants; resource recovery and reuse; and environmental and community health.

Candidates whose research integrates advanced sensing technologies, artificial intelligence, data analytics, or data-driven modeling with experimental or field-based environmental engineering are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have opportunities to develop collaborations with researchers across the University in environmental engineering, atmospheric sciences, public health, data science, energy, materials, and related areas and to utilize shared Departmental, College, and University research facilities.

The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and graduate education in environmental engineering, including instruction in areas that complement the Department's existing strengths in water and advanced treatment systems and that engage emerging research directions.

This position advances the University of Houston Research Priorities in Energy, Security and Sustainability through research addressing environmental sustainability, water and resource security, pollution prevention, and resource recovery, and in Health and Well-being through research linking environmental quality, the built environment, and community health. Research incorporating advanced sensing, artificial intelligence, and environmental data science also aligns with the Digital Futures and the Human Experience priority.

Qualifications
Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field by the time of appointment. Candidates are expected to develop and maintain an internationally recognized and externally funded research program; publish high-impact scholarship; mentor graduate and undergraduate researchers; contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching; and participate in professional and University service.

Candidates whose scholarship creates collaborations across traditional disciplinary boundaries and complements existing research strengths within the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, the Cullen College of Engineering, and the broader University of Houston research enterprise are particularly encouraged to apply.
