Description:

The University of Houston-Downtown Department of English seeks qualified and committed instructors for the position of Part-of-Term Adjunct Faculty during the 8-week 1 and 8-week 2 sessions of a fall/spring semester. The position is NOT eligible for benefits.

Depending on experience and departmental needs, hired instructors will teach one of the following:

  • In-person sections of co-requisite ENG 1300 (Integrated Reading and Writing) and ENG 1301 (Composition I). These sections meet four days a week, Monday through Thursday, during the 8-week 1 and 8-week 2 sessions respectively. Co-requisite ENG 1300 and ENG 1301 sections are paired so that the same students are enrolled in both sections. Due to the developmental purpose of these sections, class sizes are capped at a lower number than is the case with other writing courses at UHD.
  • In-person or online sections of TCOM 3302 (Business and Technical Writing).

Required Qualifications:

  • ENG 1300 and 1301: PhD or MA in English (or directly related discipline)
  • TCOM 3302: PhD or MA in Technical Communication (or directly related discipline)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ENG 1300 and 1301: Experience teaching college-level developmental English courses as instructor of record
  • TCOM 3302: Experience teaching college-level business/professional/technical writing courses as instructor of record

To apply, candidates must submit a resume or curriculum vitae and a cover letter. Official transcripts and two signed letters of reference on academic letterhead will be required from candidates who reach the final stage of consideration, but these documents are not needed in the initial application. The departmental Assistant Chair will inform candidates about how and when to submit their transcripts and letters of reference.

All positions at the University of Houston-System are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check.

The University of Houston System and its universities are an Equal Opportunity Institution.
