The University of Houston Law Center (UHLC) seeks applications for the position of Adjunct Faculty to operate as a team coach and director of its Moot Court Interscholastic Team of upper-level students.

As a non tenure track (NTT) position under the title of adjunct professor, the appointee will accrue no time toward tenure at the University of Houston. The position, working in conjunction with the Law Center’s Blakley Advocacy Institute (BAI) leadership (http://www.law.uh.edu/blakely), will teach courses and oversee the moot court program, including student training, competition selection, team preparation, and strategic growth of the program. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in appellate advocacy, coaching or advocacy training, and a passion for mentorship. This role offers a chance to work with a nationally ranked law program dedicated to shaping the next generation of skilled legal advocates.

This Adjunct Professor of Law opportunity is unique in the appointee needs to be available at a variety of times that sometimes includes evenings and weekends, and the instruction includes facilitating volunteer attorney coaches for student support for particular competitions. Also, an appointee will need to be available for the appointment in the fall, spring, and summer semesters for continuity.

Given the position’s direct interactions with law students, a Juris Doctorate is required.

The position’s primary responsibilities are as follows:

With BAI administrative staff and coaches, direct and manage all aspects of the Moot Court Interscholastic Team (the Team). Duties will include but are not limited to:
• Supervise and direct all aspects of the Team to facilitate student involvement in regional and national interscholastic moot court competitions that coincide with the mission of BAI and the Law Center;
• Manage Team budget and Team expenditures;
• Manage and direct the student Team Executive Board who will handle day-to-day operations;
• Develop long-term strategic plans for the Team, including team fundraising, and program expansion;
• Cultivate relationships with the wider interscholastic moot court community to remain current with competition rules, formats, and judging standards;

Interested candidates should have strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications
J.D. degree
Legal practice experience (2+ years removed from law school)
Experience in coaching, teaching, or advocacy training
Strong written and oral communication skills
Appellate experience or previous moot court experience preferred
