Department: Faculty Services, Law Salary: Commensurate with experience

Description:

The University of Houston Law Center offers graduate level courses in Law in multiple specialty areas and has openings for part-time Adjunct professors. Interested and qualified candidates are invited to apply to be considered for these temporary, non-benefits, part-time positions.

Please indicate your areas of expertise. Adjunct opportunities vary in terms of the type of course. Opportunities include: (i) traditional doctrinal courses taught in a lecture format; (ii) clinical education, which is a type of experiential learning course; (iii) simulation courses, which is a type of experiential learning course; and (iv) involvement with the Law Center’s Blakely Advocacy Institute (http://www.law.uh.edu/blakely), where the opportunities include a variety of skills‑based courses.

This posting is for the Law Center’s bar prep program, two three-credit courses where students learn skills to make them better lawyers and enhance their skill base to perform well on a bar exam.
Example instances of the two courses are here:
https://www.law.uh.edu/schedule/class_information.asp?cid=17874 (Prof. Writing Strategies)
https://www.law.uh.edu/schedule/class_information.asp?cid=22556 (Legal Analysis & Writing)

The ideal appointee will be available to teach courses in the day as well as the evening, however, multiple opportunities are available under both courses for either the fall or spring semesters, including the option for evening teaching in both courses. Both courses are capped at a small quantity of students due to the formative assessment built into the course plan. Instructors for the courses follow a model syllabus and course plan for each course that has been developed by full-time Law Center faculty who are active in orienting Adjunct instructors to the course material. The courses are three-credits, which means two class meetings each week during the fourteen week semester. These courses are career-changing for the students who take them and represent one of the greatest opportunities to contribute to students and the program of legal education at the Law Center.

As a non‑tenure track (NTT) position, the appointee will accrue no time toward tenure at the University of Houston. Please reference and review the University of Houston’s NTT Faculty Policy, available at this link: https://www.uh.edu/provost/faculty/faculty-policies/non-tenure-track/.
