Description:

Directs and coordinates the academic advising activities of a college or major educational office.
1. Directs, implements and evaluates advising activities for a college or major office.
2. Interprets and communicates academic policies and procedures to faculty, students and staff.
3. Coordinates and supervises the mailing of all letters of recommendation to professional schools and maintains statistics on the number of students entering professional school.
4. Conducts career counseling workshops and provides advise on field of study.
5. Participates in class schedule development and registration tasks, including problem enrollments, drop/adds, and so forth.
6. Supervises the compilation and analyses of data and the preparation of related management reports.
7. Acts as liaison with university administration and faculty on academic matters.
8. Performs other job-related duties as required.

Description:

This position works in the Office of Graduate and Professional Programs at the C. T. Bauer College of Business. This position engages with students to advise them on academic requirements for degree progress, course selection, policies, procedures, and resources based on an assessment of individual student needs.

Successful candidates will have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team, work well under pressure, consistently meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects while remaining flexible and positive. This will require exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. Further, successful candidates will effectively communicate with all levels of management and fellow employees and be able to manage multiple employer relationships.

Position includes the following responsibilities but not limited to:

  1. Manage a high work volume with attention to detail and accuracy.
  2. Advise students for a graduate program.
  3. Processes academic forms and letters for a graduate program.
  4. Assisting with data reporting.
  5. Plan and execute events such as orientation, webinars, town halls, coffee chats, etc.
  6. Participate in events offered by Bauer’s Graduate Programs Office such as Commencement Orientation, Graduation Express Check, etc.
  7. Assist with graduate Bauer commencement ceremonies each Fall and Spring semester.
  8. Assist with recruiting students into a program. This includes in-person and virtual events.
  9. Promote our graduate program(s). This includes (but is not limited to):
    1. Planning and executing events
    2. Participating in presentations to classes
    3. Conducting presentations to student organizations
  10. Promote Bauer graduate programs to UH undergraduate students. This includes (but is not limited to):
    1. Advising UH students considering declaring program
    2. Participating in presentations to classes
    3. Conducting presentations to student organizations
  11. Occasional travel and special events may occur outside of the normal business working hours, including some Saturdays. As much advance notice as possible will be given.
  12. Be adaptable to change, as constant improvements are being made in advising.

The Office of Graduate and Professional Programs believes in providing staff with the tools needed to excel in their position. The hours for this position are Monday-Friday 8am - 5pm.

MQ: Requires application of advanced principles, techniques and theory in a professional discipline or a thorough general business management knowledge. Knowledge of this level is typically obtained through a directly job-related Master's degree or equivalent formal training in a recognized field of specialization that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job-related experience.
